In this video I will be showing you how to use a dremel tool to cut up coral colonies. I will be using a dremel kit that i picked up from harbor freight a few months back. I first start off by removing a big chunk of green birdsnest and purple stylo from the left rock structure that i will be completely removing within the month. I will be replacing this structure with a new one out of dry rock so i can grow out the new acros for the 300 gallon build in september. When it comes to cutting coral with the dremel i like to use a diamond coated cutting bit b/c this allows me to make clean and smooth cuts. Having smooth cuts makes it easier to glue the frag to the plug. Once all the coral is cut up i go i glue them down to small frag plugs using brs super thick gel and coral glue accelerator. @solarflare88065 years ago Great video, I was looking at finding SAFE ways to frag with a dremel. It just seems counterintuitive with electricity and salt water. BUT placing the dremel above the working station and just use the flex shaft is fantastic.. I never even thought about that. also, now the little clip on the back of the dremel makes sense..... wow I feel stupid lol. ALSO, I just want to say thank you for your service, I noticed the ribbon on your wrist. Afghanistan right? thank you! ... 1

@saml81196 years ago What do you use to cut through rock with encrusted coral? I’m building a new system and basically doing a total restart. I want to save as much coral as possible and frag off the rest to sell. I haven’t done a good job with encrusting corals using a dremel ...

@johnsreef26227 years ago Hey, so i have been watching alot of your stuff and its awesome. Thank you. I have a question I am hoping you can talk about. I recently bought some Zoas did the Coral RX dip and Bayer ect. So some how i must have missed an egg because I found a zoanthid eating nudibranch in my tank ;-). Not sure if it came in on a snail shell or on the zoas. I removed all by Zoas from the rocks and dipped them. I did not find any more. I have all the Zoas on a frag rack and will keep them there for several weeks looking for any pests on them and will continue to dip them. I think it my have only been one but I will continue to treat it like an infestation lol. That being said I have a fish Qt tank and it works great. I want to make a coral qt tank. I know you need to cycle it, but my question is how to keep it cycled without fish in it? I have done fishless cycles, but with Dr tims ammonia and stability. But how do you keep small coral only tank cycled? ...
