Meet Earnee Gilling, a Senior Engineer at Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing in Saline, Michigan. Earnee has been with Toyota for over 12 years, contributing her electrical systems expertise to vehicles like the 2013 Avalon. You'll see in the above video why she's so passionate about being an engineer. What makes Earnee particularly special, though, is that she is just as passionate about increasing the ranks of America's up and coming professionals—especially future engineers. Every year, she takes part in Toyota's annual Girls' Engineering Exploration event, which invites girls from local Detroit schools to visit Toyota and take part in engineering workshops. More important than the design and critical thinking skills the girls gain, Earnee says, "is the sense of accomplishment...the sense that they can do anything." Sometimes it just takes one person to encourage young students to explore new career horizons. For Earnee, it was a science teacher who saw her potential and pushed her to see a rewarding future in engineering. Check out Earnee's story to see how she's paying this inspiration forward, so more girls in her community discover new opportunities and have the confidence to achieve their goals.
