Thromboembolism refers to the formation of a blood clot, known as a thrombus, within a blood vessel that obstructs blood flow. This condition can occur in any blood vessel, but most commonly affects the deep veins of the legs, a condition known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT). If a part of the clot breaks off and travels to other parts of the body, it can cause a blockage in other blood vessels, a condition known as an embolism. Thromboembolism is a serious medical condition that requires prompt diagnosis and treatment to prevent potentially life-threatening complications.
