Recently, its maker finally announced its arrival through a press release. According to Mercedes-Benz USA, the new Maybach S-Class will go on sale within its territory in the first half of 2022. The auto is set to compete in the segment of the market held by ultra-luxurious cars such as the Bently Flying Spur and the Rolls Royce Ghost. Although the car comes in two guises in Europe, namely the S 580 and S 680, the U.S. will only get the range-topping trim. The move is probably in consideration of the company’s continuous streamlining efforts. The Maybach S 680 carries the same handcrafted 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine. The unit is capable of producing up to 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. All that power goes to an all-wheel-drive system and distributed via a 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission system. The most powerful model in the Maybach line can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds, and its top speed is electronically limited at 130 mph. The vehicle features a torque split of 69% to the rear axle and 31% to the front to offer the best possible traction and driving stability while ensuring a high level of comfort for its occupants. The comfort features of the Maybach S 680 are further amplified by its spacious rear passenger area, active road noise compensation that provides it a quiet interior environment, headphones with noise suppression, Burmester High-End 4D Surround Sound System, ambient lighting, multiple touchscreen displays, MBUX Interior Assist with voice and hand gesture controls, silver champagne flutes with holders, refrigerated compartment, and upholstery clad in Nappa leather and designo with special diamond stitching.
