We discuss when and how to use dis, dat, deze and die with het and de words and plurals words in lesson 18 of Learn Dutch grammar course. Now let's discuss, how do we use this and that in Dutch. In Dutch, it's a little difficult to use this and that. We can use two versions: either dit dat or deze die. So, how do we know, which versions are to be used? So, as we have already discussed that there are two types of words in Dutch. The HET woorden and the DE woorden DE woord. For example, if it's a HET word, Het huis then we can use Dit huis, if it is near, this house. Or, dat huis. But if the word is with De, de jongen then we use : deze jongen if he is near to us. Or Die jongen for that jongen. For that jongen, for that boy. And deze and die are also used for meetvoud woorden. So if we have got, huizen : not huis but huizen then we use : deze huizen. of dat huizen. And, I would also like to tell you that we can not use deze and die words for the words. So deze and die woors are only used for the naamwoorden. Deze and die are only use for een naamwoord. So you need to memorize or by practice, you will be able to understand which words start with HET and which words start with DE. Because, if the word starts with HET then you have to use dit and dat. And if the word start with De or it's the plural form then we use deze and die.
