In 1968, Howmet produced the TX (Turbine eXperimental). A Le Mans race car fitted with a turbine engine. It was as experimental as it was beautiful, which is very. If we're not mistaken, the car in the video is Chassis # GTP2, which does not have the original turbine engine in it anymore, but has been restored as close to its original form as possible, after being transformed into an open-cockpit car in the late 60s after the Howmet racing progamme ended. Initially, two Howmet TX's were made, fitted with leased Continental Turbines, which meant that if Howmet sold the cars, the engines had to be returned. Eventually, the TX's were sold in 1971 meaning the engines had to go out of the cars. # GTP1 was later rebuilt in 2006 and has once again a Continental engine at its core. # GTP2, however, couldn't be restored with a Continental engine and now has an Allison turbine. The car competed several times at the Goodwood FoS and Le Mans Classic over the past few years and in 2018, we were lucky enough to spot it zooming around the Le Mans Circuit once again. An incredibly unique and joyful sight, ready to be enjoyed by all of you. Thanks for watching! Take care. HistoricRacingHD's goal: "The cars of today are made by those of the past.
